Beaune Castle

It is a 19th century castle in glazed Burgundy tiles on the site of the former 15th century fortified castle of Beaune by King Louis XI. It was in 1820 that Bernard Bouchard bought the site. Today, four of the five original towers of the castle remain outside as well as parts of the rampart, and the whole is registered on the supplementary list of historical monuments. Underground cellars up to 10 meters deep cross the property. The wines of Maison Bouchard Père & Fils flourish alongside a unique collection of nearly 2000 bottles from the 19th century. The open-air theater

It is a park in the moat, at the foot of the Bastion Sainte-Anne. The city's public baths used to be installed there. In the 1960s, a raised stage and bleachers were installed to create an open-air performance hall; this is how the Théâtre de Verdure was born. You could applaud wrestling matches and variety artists there. Laid out as a composite garden, the Théâtre de Verdure refers to different styles of Garden Art: medieval, French, Italian and English. You can also admire a water mirror reminiscent of the busée river that fed the moat.

The old fortified gate with drawbridge

Known as the Porte du Bourgneuf or Saint-Nicolas, it saw the arrival of many important figures: Henry II, accompanied by Catherine de Medici in 1548, welcomed by the canons under a freshly painted triumphal arch, to the sound of tambourines; Charles IX accompanied by the queen mother made a brief stay in 1594 and the gate was decorated again for the entry of Louis XIII, on his way to the Alps in 1629, then of Queen Anne of Austria the following year. But the most pompous entry was that of Louis XIV and the queen, on November 10, 1669, when the cannon was fired. Since 1770, the new ceremonial gate wanted by the mayor Maufoux to bring the city up to date and designed by the Dijon architect Lenoir Le Romain has welcomed visitors from the north.
